Hello there,
I wanted to ask something to the other deviants like me, whether core or not :P
I was told by many teachers that for improving the drawing skill i should only (or mostly) copy, from pages and illustrations by other authors.
Is it really so true, in your opinion?
Personally, i can use some photo reference time by time, but in the most recent times i've been drawing just from my mind, i think it is a good exercise too, that makes you use your photographic memory, this is the way i produced those two sketches, for example:

Mature Content

Nude woman digital sketch by B4LD3R
and this newer one  Biting her pinkie (updated) by B4LD3R not even for this one i've used a pose reference at all  Ingvar by B4LD3R

I don't know if it is me, but, i found copying too much easy to actually learn something by doing that,
That's why i created a specific folder to put all the photographic portraits in it:

So i can let myself get inspired by some images i've seen previously, or by the style of authors i like that could influence me, IMHO this is the best way, but, i'm open to debate on it if you would like to give your advice,
i'd be most thankful ^^

I would say both is a valuable way to learn.
If you draw by looking at footage you can directly look at how shadows fall, how body parts are correctly positioned and such.
When you draw from your mind you can test your skills and later compare where you need to improve.
